“Honestly, I have heard things that I cannot speak of; though there may be a day when this knowledge does not offend, but for now I will meet you with reproach if you would say a word of it.

To know these things is to be confronted with my worst enemy, and to admit my most shameful inadequacies in the brightest of lights, standing aside the ‘devil,’ himself: The man in question who took me for a fool, and had me wishing him well as he left my house with the mule that I raised beneath him, and my soul tasseled to the saddle for the ride.
